Getting Into The Groove
Okay, I’m trying. I’m really trying to get a feel for this email list slash newsletter thing. What do you want me to provide for you? Let me know. Otherwise, I’m just going to share with you what I think is fun for the week.
Orangecello
If you follow my Instagram you probably know that I enjoy food. One of the delights I discovered in 2022 was in Sao Paulo’s Mercadao - the Dekopon Orange. A hybrid with mandarin, this orange has some of the best flavor I’ve ever experience, maybe second to the old Ka’u Oranges produced in Hawai’i back in the 1990s. I had a few of them sitting around getting dry and figured I need to preserve them.
I’ll be back to finish it up after the infusion period ends in May but I did a short livestream on how to prepare the Orangecello - check it out!
The Espresso of John Wick 4
I went to see John Wick 4 last night for the 10:45pm screening. As you can imagine, we didn’t leave the theatre until past 2am. No spoilers (okay, maybe one or two). A new character called The Marquis (this dud in white) has a penchant for espresso with sugar (I’d make a comment but we all survive Under The Table). If you look in the back of this set you’ll see a shiny brass La San Marco Top 80 Preziosa espresso machine. I didn’t know it for sure at the time but if you’re familiar with LSM machines, they have a distinctive look and style to them that I was 90% sure.
Earlier in the movie, we see The Marquis preparing his espresso with sugar in this very opulent demitasse cup. If you happen to know the manufacturer, I’d be very keen to hearing from you.
Chill Extract Brewing
I’ve been thinking more about this CEB - this method where you chill 30% of your brew to give you better aromatics and floral notes in coffee. I tend to be a skeptic about things but it’s been quite interesting and positive. I’m thinking about doing a follow-up video with chill extract espresso shot pulling. So far, the results have been positive. Just gotta find time in the schedule to shoot.
But if you haven’t tried it yet, I suggest you give it a go. I did a video about it using tools that you may have lying around your house.
New Releases
Last weekend, we rounded out the Father William Trilogy. Honestly, I feel like I really struggle with titles and thumbnails - things that YouTubers are supposed to be good at doing. Sometimes I just don’t feel like I “get it.” This series is following a different track.
While we’ve done three episodes with a stop at different coffee places in Na’alehu, the fourth (and last) installment is a compilation of the trilogy. But it’s more than just stringing the videos together. I’ve saved some additional content for the compilation and trimmed out parts of the original videos. I think it will be a much more cohesive video despite the longer run time. I’m still finishing it up, so be sure to Subscribe to the Onocoffee channel (if you haven’t already) so that you’ll know when it comes out.
Coffee & Cigars
In this weeks Coffee & Cigars Thursday Night Hang Livestream on the OnoLive channel, we’re going to be checking out the Drew Estate Freestyle Live 2022 cigar. As always, it’s just a time for a chill hang with friends, so come join us if you’re free!
Last Saturday, we had a special episode featuring George Brightman. As always, it’s a good time with George bringing some special cigars, like the Crowned Heads Azul y Oro, and 35th Anniversary La Gloria Cubana for Old Virginia Tobacco. Big Tony also joined us on the show bringing the Crowned Heads Sfumato in C Major. It was an epic live show but you can see the replay:
Alright, that’s it for this week. Thanks for taking the time to read. I greatly appreciate it! Love to hear your comments and suggestions, so don’t be afraid to use the link in the letter. See you next time!
Jay
